Konica Minolta to Display bizhub C650 Series at 2008 Hokkaido Toyako Summit

Ramsey, N.J. – July 7, 2008 – Konica Minolta Business Solutions U.S.A., Inc. (Konica Minolta), a leading provider of advanced imaging and networking technologies for the desktop to the print shop, today announced their parent company – Konica Minolta Holdings, Inc. – will be showcasing the bizhub C650 Series and its energy conservation fusing technology at the Hokkaido Toyako Summit’s Environmental Showcase.  The showcase takes place from July 5-10, 2008 and Konica Minolta’s demonstration will be held within the International Media Center.

During this year’s Hokkaido Toyako Summit, world leaders will meet to discuss the world economy, environmental concerns, African development and other international issues.  The participating countries in this year’s Hokkaido Toyako Summit include Japan, the United States of America, Canada, the French Republic, the Federal Republic of Germany, the Republic of Italy, the Russian Federation, the United Kingdom of Great Britain, and Northern Ireland and the European Union.

The Environmental Showcase is a part of efforts by the Japanese government to exhibit the most cutting-edge environmental technologies during the G8 summit.  Media and press from all over the world will have a chance to look at Japan’s latest environmental technologies.

The bizhub™ C650 Series, a part of the Environmental Showcase, is an award-winning color office system that provides workgroups a true black-and-white replacement multifunctional product (MFP) –  without sacrificing black and white print speed or requiring a premium price. Additionally, the bizhub C650 series features various energy saving qualities including Simitri™ HD color polymerized toner, induction heating fusing technology, lesser power consumption and reduction of C02 emissions. For these energy saving features, the bizhub C650 and bizhub C550 were given a highly prestigious energy conservation award from Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry in March 2008.  The award – known officially as the Agency for Natural Resources and Energy Director-General's Award – is international validation that Konica Minolta continues to produce MFPs and printers that reduce environmental impact.

“Konica Minolta is committed to make our products environmentally friendly during the manufacturing process, distribution and ultimately the use of our printers and MFPs," said Kevin P. Kern, vice president, marketing, Konica Minolta Business Solutions U.S.A., Inc.  "Our entire organization is honored the bizhub C650 will be featured as one of Japan’s leading environmentally conscious products at the  Hokkaido Toyako Summit’s Environmental Showcase.”

Konica Minolta Achieves 'Level 2 Zero Emissions' in Japan
In another leading green effort, the Konica Minolta Group recently announced that it has achieved "Level 2 zero emissions*" at all of its 15 production bases in Japan.  The conditions of achieving Level 2 are maintaining the three conditions required to achieve to obtain Level 1 and to cut externally discarded waste by more than 30 percent of that from fiscal year 2001.

As for oversea production bases, three bases achieved Level 1 by the end of fiscal year 2007 and remaining four bases are targeting to achieve Level 1 within fiscal year 2008.  Within fiscal year 2009, Konica Minolta plans to achieve Level 2 in all production bases overseas. Even after this accomplishment of Level 2 at our entire production base overseas and abroad, Konica Minolta will continue activities to further reduce emissions.

As a trusted worldwide organization, Konica Minolta will continue to improve corporate value by strengthening our global participation, not only economically, but from social and environmental aspects.  Konica Minolta's zero waste activities reflect the organization’s commitment to minimizing waste destined for landfill disposal, by promoting waste recycling.  The Konica Minolta Group believes it is essential to give proper consideration to real-world economics while reliably implementing risk management, so as to steadily continue our zero waste activities.
